REEL, the Swiss Army knife of the France-China nuclear partnership
The fruit of the Franco-Chinese partnership
Taishan is the largest Sino-French cooperation project in the energy sector. It illustrates the strength of the nuclear partnership between France and China. Present since the construction of the Daya Bay nuclear power plant in 1987, France, through EDF, has been the leading partner of the Chinese nuclear industry. Since that time, most French companies have established a presence there.
Until the Taishan EPRs, the French industry has been able to diversify and expand its presence in all sectors of the nuclear cycle in China. In this highly competitive market, these companies have demonstrated their ability to produce proven and safe equipment. Today, China represents a unique opportunity for the entire French nuclear industry to consolidate and perpetuate its expertise in nuclear energy, of which Taishan is a symbol.
The expertise of the French nuclear industry mobilized
Beyond these contractors, the French supply chain has partnered with Chinese teams. This is particularly true of companies such as Velan, Nuvia, Baumert, Bernards Controls, Assystem, and REEL.
REEL, the Swiss Army knife of nuclear handling, is the supplier of the fuel handling chain within the power plant. The Lyon-based company, which employs 200 people on EPR projects, contributed to the fuel loading of Taishan 1 in spring 2018.
