Proven expertise in waste handling crane systems

Reliable, high-performance systems built to last the next 25 years.
NKM Noell reaffirms its expertise in the modernisation and automation of waste handling cranes for waste-to-energy plants in Germany.

Between 1978 and 2000, NKM Noell supplied nearly 150 waste and slag handling cranes to incineration plants in Germany, across Europe, and in Singapore.

Even though the number of new waste-to-energy plant projects has declined in recent years, this sector remains an important area of activity for NKM Noell Special Cranes.

Modernising and automating crane systems across Germany

Most German incineration plants built in the 1980s and 1990s now require modernisation.

NKM Noell Special Cranes teams are supporting this transition by replacing existing cranes and upgrading them through partial or full automation.

One recent example: The Bielefeld-Herford waste-to-energy plant chose NKM Noell Special Cranes to replace two of its waste handling cranes.

NKM Noell managed the engineering, design, manufacturing, delivery, and installation of the cranes, along with the automation of their operation.

The tight timeline for dismantling the old cranes and installing the new ones—while the incinerator remained in operation—was a major challenge, successfully met by the NKM Noell teams.

At the same time, NNSC carried out the electrical modernisation of two additional waste cranes and deployed a fully automated system at the Nuremberg waste-to-energy plant.

These projects demonstrate NKM Noell’s expertise in industrial modernisation, and its ability to help clients optimise critical infrastructure.
