A strategic acquisition with Alesa
2016, May: REEL announces the acquisition of Alesa, a recognized expert in the design, installation, and maintenance of complex handling systems, primarily for the aluminium industry. With a team of around one hundred highly qualified engineers across Switzerland, Canada, and France, Alesa brings proven know-how and international reach.
With this integration, Alesa becomes REEL Alesa, a new entity within the REEL Group, contributing complementary technical skills and real commercial synergies. This acquisition significantly strengthens REEL’s positioning in the aluminium sector, a key industry undergoing major transformation.
An International Acquisition
The operation involves the acquisition of RTA Alesa AG (Switzerland), which owns RTA Alesa Ltd (Canada) and Alesa Technologies SAS (France). The sites are located in Zurich, Montreal, and Gardanne.
REEL, through its subsidiary NKM Noell Special Cranes, is already active in lifting and handling systems for aluminium production plants. The addition of Alesa expands REEL’s solution portfolio and increases its visibility in this strategic market.
A Longstanding and Recognized Expertise
For over 40 years, Alesa has been designing and maintaining customized equipment for the aluminium industry, as well as for the energy, mining, cement, steel, and fertilizer sectors.
Its expertise lies in the ability to respond to complex industrial constraints with proprietary technologies—particularly for feeding electrolysis cells—and in holding exclusive usage rights to technologies originally developed by Aluminium Pechiney.
A Strategic Integration Built on Shared Values
REEL and Alesa share a common vision of industrial engineering: large-scale project management, strong technical culture, decentralized operations, and deep knowledge of the aluminium market. These shared values facilitate a fast and efficient integration, supporting a joint ambition: to become a global leader in aluminium handling systems.
