REEL Steps Fully into the Industry of the Future

REEL, a specialist in complex lifting and handling systems and integrated system solutions, has embraced the industry of the future for several years now. New technologies are embedded from the design stage and integrated into the evolving approach to maintenance.

As part of its services, REEL maintains industrial production equipment for clients across multiple sectors: energy, aerospace, aluminium, and more.

“We constantly seek innovation in both maintenance and design,” says Sylvain Massol, Development Manager for REEL’s Aerospace Business Unit.

Connected Sites and Centralised Oversight

REEL manages all its industrial sites—both in France and internationally—with a unified approach to safety, workload planning, and financial performance. Group guidelines govern operations and everything is managed through a central ERP system.

Locally, however, maintenance is handled site by site. Nearly 1,000 employees work in REEL’s maintenance activities. To streamline processes and capitalise on feedback, REEL is rolling out a dedicated CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).

“This tool is being deployed across all maintenance operations—on our own sites and for client services alike,” adds Sylvain Massol.

REEL’s goal is to extend its core values—safety, performance, customer satisfaction, and engagement—across all client partnerships.

Maintenance at the Core of the Industry of the Future

REEL aims to meet future challenges by developing advanced solutions in Products, Processes, and Maintenance across all sectors it serves. The company’s clients also share this vision of the industry of the future.

“From the beginning, REEL has delivered innovative, competitive solutions, high-value services, and high-performance products,” says Massol.

The company name itself is rooted in this philosophy: in the 1950s, founder Charles Frantz created the first hopper crane under the brand “REEL,” standing for Rational, Economical, Elegant, and Lightweight (in French: Rationnel, Économique, Esthétique, Léger).

Innovation-Driven Maintenance

In the industry of the future, maintenance is a high-value service driven by innovation.

“Maintenance includes highly technical roles with a strong push for innovation,” stresses Massol.

This includes production monitoring, M2M* communication, and remote supervision—key priorities for REEL.

“Offshore clients require remote supervision. M2M is also essential for our installed equipment, especially during warranty periods.”

*M2M: machine-to-machine communication, using telecoms and IT systems to enable autonomous exchanges between devices.
