Flamanville EPR: A challenge successfully met by REEL

At the beginning of February, an important step was taken at Flamanville as EDF finalized the installation of particularly robust clamps. The aim was to reinforce three connections on the reactor’s main primary circuit to prevent a major breach in the event of an accident. REEL’s La Rochelle plant completed the manufacture of these clamps in an extremely tight timeframe.

An ambitious project, both in terms of deadlines and safety

Early 2021, in order to meet the Safety requirements requested by the ASN to EDF, Framatome designed the support collar to be installed around each of the three points in the main primary circuit of the Flamanville EPR reactor.
The solution was validated by the ASN and led Framatome to order the supply of these ollars from REEL in October 2021. Their manufacture was a major challenge for the maintenance of the commissioning schedule for the new Flamanville power plant.

It took REEL only 11 months to manufacture and deliver the parts in accordance with the initial schedule, while meeting numerous requirements in terms of manufacturing quality in the context of an extremely tight deadline.

REEL is proud of its teams for having successfully taken up this challenge, in close collaboration with FRAMATOME and EDF, but also for having been able to contribute again to the activities of the FLAMANVILLE 3 plant.

Indeed, REEL has already supplied all the equipment allowing the loading and unloading of fuel assemblies in the fuel building as well as in the reactor building.
